I love the Fall! I love magical Indian Summer days, the leaves gracing the trees in brilliant hues of orange, yellow & red, pumpkin patches & corn mazes for the kids to explore, and pumpkin spice candles filling my home with a delicious fragrance. It is a season of gratitude, a time to reflect on all of the ways the Lord has blessed us throughout the year. I love decorating my home to reflect the different seasons. When we lived in New York, it was fun to fill the house with lots of bittersweet, fall leaves, pumpkins and gourds. We lived in farm country, so there was an abundance. Cornstalks and haybales adorned the front porch, along with mums and ornamental cabbage.
Then we moved to Florida and I began to transition my decorating into a Coastal Fall theme. It was the nicest time of the year there. The weather had cooled and it was off season, so the beaches were nearly empty. The sea grapes along the dunes changed hue from green to yellow and the sea oats waved amber in the ocean breeze. I began using antique fishing floats, sea shells and starfish along with pumpkins and leaves. It was there I discovered that pairing aqua with orange was a wonderful way to bring my Coastal Fall to life.
Now I've come full circle back to Southern California where I grew up. Our leaves do turn here, but the real Fall color is seen in our sunsets as God paints the evening sky. Glorious!
It is a new season in life for us. We are thankful to live near family again, to have the beach close by, and to enjoy watching our grandkids grow up. What joy they bring to us, filling our hearts to overflowing.
Celebrating each season with them is such a gift, as we experience wonders anew through their eyes. Fall brings Halloween costumes, pumpkin carving, and many fun adventures.
Fall is a time for me to embrace gratitude all the more. It is a time to enjoy creating cards, pumpkins, banners and mixed media art in my studio. This week I collected leaves from out front and decoupaged them. So simple and so pretty! I look forward to gathering around the table with family and friends, celebrating God's goodness and faithfulness in each of our lives.
